I hesitated because there are much cheaper dog life jackets online. Most of the ones I looked at seemed nearly identical though—foam around the body, a bright color, and not much thought given to what happens when the dog becomes tired or starts swallowing water. Our Frenchie is very front-heavy, so support around his face was the feature I actually cared about. We tested this in the shallow end first and slowly let him get comfortable. The vest supported his body while the front section helped him maintain a better swimming position. He was calmer, we were calmer, and getting him out of the water was much less stressful. My little dachshund has never been confident around deep water.
